I read about this town in Pennsylvania called Centralia.
About forty years ago a garbage pile fire sparked up a vein of coal and it's been burning underground ever since.
Due to carbon monoxide levels and sinkholes forcing people to leave the population has dropped from over a thousand to about twelve.
There's enough coal for this fire to continue for another 250 years.
